Every first Sunday of the month, the California African American Museum at Exposition Park hosts an event to honor the influences and achievements of the African American community.
There are a few pieces to the Target Sunday puzzle: 1) The actual museum… DUH! 2) my personal favorite, the food and vendors 3) a full program with performances by local groups and artists.
The event starts at 1p and goes until like 5p. Pretty sure the program happens in the earlier part of the day though so if that’s what you want to see, come close to on time, otherwise… late works (points to self)!
February’s theme was honoring the achievements of African American women. Because the smell of ribs (hot off the grill) were taking over the air, we only sat in the program long enough to see Sandy Brown perform a snippet from her Hit Solo-Show “Oh, Yes She Did!” Then we cut out to the food.
Ribs, seafood, fresh popcorn and fresh lemonade… Everything a southern girl can ask for. Checkout my video for pics of the food and more tips and fun anecdotes from the day!
Pros: Free; Entertaining program; D-list celebrity attendance including Kiki Sheppard (hey, better than no celebrities)!
