Spoiler Alert: the chili pepper and maple chicken and waffles was a one-time Easter special at Los Angeles-based restaurant, Post & Beam. Actually, a “once in a lifetime experience” is how I would prefer to explain it… OK, that may be a little dramatic but it was sooo good. Think explosion of sweet and spicy in your mouth on some perfectly fried chicken.
My girls and I found ourselves at Post & Beam on a Sunday morning after yawning through the early service at church. A beautiful sunny day in LA and a wonderful opportunity to sit outside and take in the ambiance.
Later, I would learn that Post & Beam is owned by Los Angeles-native, Chef Govind Armstrong, known for his fresh California cuisine. Post & Beam is definitely a reflection of this given the fresh taste and gourmet menu. We ordered a Farmer’s Market Scramble, the Shrimp and Grits, the Poached Egg Cornbread Benedict and of course, the chili pepper and maple chicken and waffles. All worth raving about.
I’ve gone back since for happy hour. While I must admit, they get really creative with their dishes and drink, I’ve not had anything as good as those Chicken and Waffles. Bring them back Govind!
Pros: Perfect ambiance for Sunday Brunch or for happy hour during game time; Creative gourmet menu
Cons: Service is a little on the slow side (which worked for us this day as we were leisurely) but wouldn’t do Post and Beam in a rush; happy hour menu is the same price as the regular menu, the just moved the appetizers to a smaller piece of paper.
