So last weekend, I decided to check out the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood and Highland. It’s got that classic look like the Chinese Grauman Theater so I think it might be a part of Mr. Grauman’s original Hollywood theater district.
During the year, El Capitan Theatre shows old Disney films. It’s also right next door to the Disney Cafe, so they must have a major deal with old Walt. The movie of the month was Mulan, one of my all-time favorite Disney films, so I had to check it out!
I got my ticket through a Living Social deal for only $11 (not sure how much tickets are regularly). Apparently, there was a LIVE Mulan who came out before the movie began but I got a little tied up in my mid-afternoon nap and got to the theater about 15m late. Missed her!
Anyway, Mulan, the movie, was amazing (but we already knew that). Even more amazing was watching it with this new generation of Disney lovers (except for this annoying little kid who kept asking questions.. just watch the damn movie!). The popcorn lady (yup, that is the kids snack-pack in the pic above) told me the middle seats in the balcony were the best seats in the house. She was right! Because the screen is literally three stories, sitting in the balcony gave me a straight shot!
Overall, a very cool experience to re-live some childhood memories!
Pros: The live Mulan (although I missed her); the huge & quite historic theater (really a different movie-watching experience).
Cons: Assuming the price of tix. If my deal was $11, anything more than that is too expensive.
