One of the things that I love about LA is the ability to go North, South, East or West and find somewhere amazing. Somewhere new. Somewhere different. This trip, we visit Malibu Wines, just under 40 miles west of Hollywood.
I got there right at noon, which apparently is pretty early for the visitors of Malibu Wines because I got one of the 15 parking spots in the lot. I was there to meet a few friends who had been to Malibu Wines before and were kind enough to bring a variety of bagels, cheeses and crackers (a variety I learned most visitors bring).
There are tons of tables strategically placed around the outdoor area, most of which surround the stage where a live band performs on weekends. Over in the corner, there’s a section where visitors can go to both taste wine and buy bottles of wine. You can not bring in your own alcohol (duh!) but it’s encouraged to bring your own food.
It’s a very laid back experience for a group of friends, a couple, a mom & daughter, whomever, to spend the day together sitting, sipping and enjoying each other. Over 4 hours and 5 bottles of wine later, we had accomplished all of the above.
Pros: Free admission and parking; wine tasting; BYOFood (they do not serve any food)
Cons: Parking fills up quickly so come early or shuttle; Bottles will cost $30+ so bring friends who are buying shareable bottles
