Mistakenly found the Chill Factor Shavery as I was waiting on my table at The Boiling Crab which is in the same shopping plaza in Koreatown. The entrance to the small dessert shop was a light icy blue and reminded me of what an igloo would look like (cause I’ve been in a lot of igloos), so I was drawn to see what they were sellin’.
Shaved Iced Cream (not shaved ice, shaved-iced-cream) is the best I could come up with to explain it. They call it “frosted snow” but not knowing what that is, I call it shaved-iced-cream. I asked the young lady who was working to provide some info on what we were about to eat. She pulls out this big block of Ice and I ask, “is it flavored ice?” She says “no, cause its cream-based.” So it really is iced-cream.
She then goes on to show me the process from big ice block to cup. She puts the block of ice in a meat slicer (or so it looked) and slices of this iced-cream comes out. Intrigued, I asked to taste all three flavors. I know. I know. I was asking for a lot as she was going to have to shave little samples from each block but I promised her that I would buy for me and my friends.
My favorite ended up being the Mango-flavored iced-cream. So I ordered. But the best part was yet to come… UNLIMITED TOPPINGS! What!?! So I said lemmegetsum condensed milk, chocolate chips, strawberries, little more choclate chips, granola… Then I paused as the lady tried to squeeze strawberries in the last little pocket left in my cup…. Ok, ok. That’s all.
They also had other choices if you weren’t feeling the frosted snow… Hawaian Shaved Ice, soft serve, good ole fashioned ice cream, etc.
Pros: Unlimited toppings; different dessert concept than I’ve experienced; a light dessert option as it’s not as creamy as ice cream or frozen yogurt; service was great!
