First of all… who knew we had crawfish in LA! Having only gone to one authentic New Orleans Crawfish Boil in my life, I have to admit that I was uber excited to try The Boiling Crab.
We had a group of 12 in our party so our wait was kinda long… like 1h45m long. But we had a lot of catching up to do so it was ok… I guess… Once we got in, I noticed the place wasn’t that big so it made sense why it takes a while to get seated.
The tables are lined with big sheets of white paper and as soon as you sit down, the waitress puts baby bibs on you… from that moment, I knew we were about to get messy!
First you chose your seafood… get your choice of oysters, shrimp, like 5 different types of crab, crawfish, clams and mussels.
Then you can choose your sauce… Rajun Cajun, Lemon Pepper, garlic Sauce and the Whole Shebang (which is a combo of all sauces).
Lastly, you chose your spicy-level. From non-spicy to XXX… Being the Gangsta that I am, you know I got the XXX. Lies! I settled on medium cause you know what they say… What goes in hot, comes out hot… LMAO! So I punk’d out of the XXX.
You have the choice to mix and mingle all of the seafood choices and sauces. Like, mix your shrimp and crawfish with medium garlic sauce and XXX Lemon Pepper. But I kept it simple… Crawfish + Rajun Cajun + Medium… Oh and threw some corn on the cob in there too!
They deliver your food in a big plastic bag with everything all mixed in (I can see why they can afford to keep the prices low). Soon after you get your bag of goodies, you realize why they give bibs. It’s a hott mess! But sooo good.
Pros: totally reasonable (pound of shrimp was like $9); really good seasoning; lots of seafood choices (chicken tenders & fries for those who would dare come to the “Boiling Crab” and not want seafood); fun and informal atmosphere
Cons: a lot going on so the servers were a little distracted at times
